Filming took place over a total of 34 days between March 16 and May 5, 2023. Referenced in Close-Up: Why Do We Need the Venice Film Festival? (2024). The Brutalist – The Brutalist is a painting brought to life on screen.
It’s as if Vincent Van Gogh created this absolute directorial masterpiece
From the subtle yet highly effective and powerful sound design and soundtrack. Not to mention the stunning cinematography, every frame comes to life before your very eyes. I cannot speak highly enough of Brady Corbet and his vision here. The fact that this is an original script is a testament to how the film industry should be run. The Brutalist is a realistic story that takes you to emotional places I wasn’t prepared to go.
A very deep and powerful story
I’m glad this movie is 3 hours and 35 minutes long because it earns the right to take its time to tell the story. And it’s 3 and a half hours of pure cinematic experience. I sat there watching every scene in total awe. This is how a movie is made. As for the acting, Adrien Brody gives a masterclass in acting.
Guy Pearce is totally stunning, terrifyingly terrifying at times
It’s all there for you to witness, the screaming and crying scenes, the subtle moments and gestures, the looks in his eyes. There’s so much variety in one movie that I don’t think I’ve seen acting of this level in a long time. Felicity Jones comes into the story later than I imagined she would but she can hold her head up completely, she’s a real beauty to behold. All in all, The Brutalist is a 3 and a half hour spectacle that has earned its place in the world of cinema and beyond. Brady Corbet is a visionary genius and I look forward to seeing many more of his projects.
