Kelly Macdonald is strong as Helen Radley. Bo Bragason is also strong as Clara Radley. Damian Lewis and the rest of the cast are pretty vague and don’t really have any presence. The casting is a huge mistake. The story is about a family of vampires who no longer drink human blood. The problem is that there is no story. It’s more like a few days in the life of a boring vampire family. We jump from scene to scene where nothing really happens. There are constant scenes where people just look at each other or stare at the wall. Nothing happens and we are not given any feelings. People just stand or sit doing nothing for a few seconds. None of the characters, except for Helen and Clara, have any personality at all. Probably one of the worst characters I’ve seen in a long time is pseudo-hippie-vampire-chieftain Will, also played by Damian Lewis. The character is not very well put together and Lewis’s second-rate acting skills can’t make him work. So we have mostly weak actors, poorly cast, a weak script and amateur videography and direction. And then we find out that it’s not only a horror movie but also a comedy. I just finished watching it and honestly I can’t remember anything funny that happened during the entire screening. It’s almost funny how bad this movie is, maybe that’s their goal? Ultimately the movie makes no sense. There’s no meaning to it. It’s nothing more than a fly-on-the-wall documentary about boring middle class vampires going through their daily routines in a boring way. Really boring to watch and when it finally came to an end and the long, pointless speech was over I said, “Наконец-то, thank God it’s over.” I give it a 2 and I think that’s generous.
